The fighters from the so called Islamic State renewed their offensive and are now firing with heavy artillery and mortars directly into the city from three different frontlines. Thousands of additional Kurds try to get to the Turkish border. In the last days already 160.000 Kurds fled towards Turkey. Turkey now suggest to install a buffer zone in that area - which would probably bring the Syrian Kurds under Turkish rule, which they oppose as they criticize Turkey for supporting Islamist groups inside Syria in the first place.
