Daily #BibleStudy Reading 11: The Book of #Genesis The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. Context & Questions: There are two major points to be found in this passage. First is the fittingness of humans for their role in this world. God gives to the man the role of tending the garden that God himself planted. We are here as stewards of the land, and it is land that belongs to God. Secondly, our work is to be done according to God’s will. God has designed the world to work a particular way, and the world will thrive only when his way is honored by our actions. We do not live in absolute independence, free to do whatever we please. We are significant, image-bearing creatures who will flourish when we follow the Creator’s own wisdom. Next up: Male and female he made them
