Daily Devotion by Raul Ries SUNDAY, May 25, 2014 Altars 1 Samuel 7:15-17 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. He went from year to year on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and judged Israel in all those places. But he always returned to Ramah, for his home was there. There he judged Israel, and there he built an altar to the LORD. Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. Think about it. His parents dropped him off at the temple when he was a small child. Hannah had dedicated him to the Lord, so she gave him to Eli, the priest, as a young child. Samuel grew up in the temple. After the Lord judged Eli and his sons, Samuel continued the work of the Lord. He was the priest for Israel. He made sacrifices to the Lord, and he judged Israel. He built an altar to the Lord going from city to city. Can you imagine how many altars he built to the Lord, as he travelled throughout Israel? What does that tell you? He had a strong relationship with the Lord. He spent time with God building altars. How many altars do you have to the Lord? Seriously. How many altars do you have or shall I ask, how many altars do you have to other gods you are worshipping, instead of the true God? Samuel teaches us an important lesson. We need to build altars to the Lord, which means seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The only way we can build altars to the Lord is by spending time with Him, building a relationship with Him. God has to be Number One in my life so He can speak, He can direct, He can lead and He can send me, wherever He wants me to go. How divinely supreme is our Lord above all others. -D.
