Daily Devotion by Raul Ries WEDNESDAY May 21, 2014 God-Centered 1 Samuel 7:9 And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. Then Samuel cried out to the LORD for Israel, and the LORD answered him. I love what the Scripture says in this verse. Samuel had grown up in the temple, so he knew exactly what to do. He took a lamb and offered it to the Lord as a burnt offering. He did not come before the Lord without making a sacrifice for the people. Then it says Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel. Samuel was a true servant of the Lord. He was not in it for fame or fortune. He truly had a shepherd’s heart. The people were in distress and Samuel went before the Lord on behalf of the people. Think about it. Samuel was also in danger from the Philistines, but he did not cry out for the Lord to save him. He cried out for the people. He offered a sacrifice for Israel. He was not self-centered; he was God-centered and people-centered. This is a great lesson for each one of us, whether we are serving in the church or serving our families. We have to be true servants of the Lord. We should go before the Lord daily in prayer for the people we are serving, the congregation, our families or both. Remember Job? He made a sacrifice to the Lord for his children, just in case they had sinned. He made sure they were covered. These are the examples God has set for us. These are men of God who loved the people they served. Remember that and live it. Whom God sends He employs, for He sends none to be idle. ~Matthew Henry~
