Daily Email Affirmations by Waldon Professional Funeral Grief Connections The Empty Space Diminishes When your grief is new, all you can feel is the emptiness; the missing, the wanting, and the needing to see them one more time. There is truly a vacuum in your heart and life; a deeply empty space, and you’re sure nothing will ever fill the void. And, for a long time, nothing does. In fact, I don’t think it’s a process of filling the space, but rather one where the space shrinks ever smaller. It doesn’t go away all together, but it will become smaller through time. Sometimes, people fill that space with someone or something else. My father-in-law was in a new relationship within 6 months of his wife’s death – and he seems really happy with his new lady love. Another friend who lost her father now has a kitten she’s named “Henry,” after her dad. The dear feline brings her laughter, and warmth…they are quite a pair of friends. Don’t be hesitant to listen to the inner voice which tells you to reach out, and fill that space – with love, as these two people have done. Love heals, love enriches, and transforms darkness into light.
