Daily Manna: A Call To Emulate Wednesday 26, March 2014 TEXT: GENESIS 12:1-9 Key verse: “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will shew thee” (Genesis 12:1). Very readily would one respond to a call of a friend, a loved one or a familiar voice. However, for someone to answer a call from an unfamiliar voice to go to an unknown destination would be most unexpected. Such was the case in our text today. Abram in absolute obedience, promptly responded to God’s call, even though he could only vaguely comprehend who God was. The Lord called Abram to a life of separation from his country, relations and all he had been familiar with. He was sending him to an unknown land (verse 1). Abram had not seen the land nor known anyone from there, but he followed God and trusted Him absolutely. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew, Lot, and all he had and proceeded to the land of promise. For Abram’s obedience to the heavenly calling, God pronounced seven great and precious blessings upon him (verses 2,3). Perhaps, the greatest promise Abram received was that in his seed would all the families of the earth be blessed (verse 3). This prophecy became fulfilled in the person of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God promises abundant life here on earth and an everlasting inheritance in heaven to those who heed His call. This is a solemn call to all men to willingly abandon and forsake all forms of sin, self and Satan and come to God through the Saviour. If you will believe with all your heart, forsake all else and follow Him, you will be greatly blessed. But it will only cost you an association or relationship with the world - its standards, customs, traditions, fashion and lifestyle - polluted and destructive as they are! It costs nothing more.
