Daily Manna: Spiritual Satisfaction Sunday 17, November 2013 TEXT: JOHN 4:27-42 KEY VERSE: “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” (John 4:34). The late Theodore Roosevelt (former United States President) was quoted as saying: “The best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” We make bold to add that the only work on earth that is worth doing with all of our mind and strength and with all of our soul and spirit is the work of the Father. In our text, the Saviour was on a journey to Galilee and it was about meal time. Being thirsty and physically tired because of the journey, He sat on the curb made around the well to wait for the next caller at the well who might be kind enough to draw out water for Him to be refreshed, while His disciples went to buy food. In the meantime, they returned from the town to find the Lord ministering to a Samaritan woman by the well with such strength and enthusiasm that betrayed His weariness. They wondered whether someone had brought food for Him to eat. But Jesus replied: “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me…” Eating and drinking were secondary matters with Jesus. Doing the will of God, preaching the Word and doing service that is entirely devoted to God, give as much strength to the soul as does food to the physical body. Our needs naturally range from simple daily bread to more complex issues like a desire for social relevance, material success and personal significance. Many are ready to pay a very high price for this temporary satisfaction to the neglect of their never-dying souls. Yet, Christ alone can meet our deepest heart needs. Without submitting to His will for our lives, we starve our souls spiritually and we perish. Let us thirst and hunger only for the things that answer to His holy will, for He has promised to satisfy every hungry soul. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Doing His will should be the burden of every longing soul.
