#DailyDevotion New Lifestyles Acts 2:41-42 On that day about three thousand believed his message and were baptised. They spent their time learning from the Apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together. After Jesus ascends to heaven, the apostles together with others totalling about 120 were meeting to pray and on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit descends on then. They are filled with power just as the Lord had promised and they begin to speak in tongues. The many visitors in the city are amazed because some of these people are speaking their language. Peter addresses the crowd and at the end of it the Lord adds 3000 people to their number…amazing! What happens after that is something that the church today needs to learn from. The bible says that they spent their time learning from the Apostles, they were like family, they shared meals together, they took time to pray together, they sold their property and shared what they got, and they cared for each other. Wow, what an experience that must have been. If I was not one of them, after seeing all that I would have wanted to be included in that group. Today we are so busy we have no time for one another. The only time we get together is Sunday morning for the service and even then we don’t fellowship much because after service most of us are in a hurry. When was the last time you took time to sit and learn the word of God from the “Apostles” God has placed in your life? When was the last time you opened up your home to other believers to just share a meal and fellowship? When was the last time you attended and participated in a prayer meeting? When was the last time you denied yourself so that you could be a blessing to another? The bible says that they share their food happily and freely and everyone liked them. The Lord added daily to their number May we learn from the first believers may we slow down and have time to truly care for one another. Practical Application. Reflect on the practices of the very first believes and ask yourself where am I missing the mark? What then are you willing to do about it?
