Danladi proposes N97.3b expenditure for 2015 Taraba budget OVER N22 billion out of the N97.3 billion earmarked by the Taraba State government for the 2015 fiscal year is allocated to the Ministry of Works. Presenting the budget yesterday on the floor of the House of Assembly, the Acting Governor, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar Danladi, said the reason for allocating such amount to the ministry is to ensure there are more access roads in the nooks and crannies of the rural areas. “There is need to provide more communities with access roads. That is why the Ministry of Works has the highest allocation of N22,063,221,363.00.” A total sum of N97,319,103,027.00 was projected for 2015 by the state government. While the recurrent expenditure is estimated at N42,652,509,453.00, the total estimated capital expenditure is pegged at N53,300,985274.00 On the revenue target, which is pegged at N4.5 billion, Danladi said: “For Taraba State to be able to meet its revenue target as proposed in the bill before you, all hands must be on deck by all stakeholders in the efforts to harness the projected resources.” The acting governor, who noted that last year’s budget which was N83,355,337,529.00 was poorly executed as the performance of the budget stood at “only 61.09 percent as against the projected 70 percent” stressed the need to make this year’s budget a reality. Citing Section 15 of the Finance (Control and Management) Act of 1958 as amended, Danladi observed that the Contingencies Fund which provides for “just N100 million is grossly inadequate”, hence the proposal to increase the fund to N566,350,927.00. Though the House has embarked on recess as a result of the Yuletide, that, according to the speaker would not lead to delay in passing the budget, promising that the Assembly would commence deliberation on the bill immediately after the Yultide. Danladi, who further stated that the “focus of the 2015 budget is to ensure the completion of certain vital projects started by this administration”, noted that the current economic situation in the state is nothing to write home about. He said: “I acknowledge that at this period of our economic life, it will take a lot of hard work, great sacrifice and tremendous discipline for us to achieve our targets.” The House Speaker, Mark Useni, assurred the acting governor of the readiness of the lawmakers to give accelerated passage to the budget. “We want to assure you that this House is going to do justice to this budget.” ×The Guardian
