Ganjpha are the original play cards which has inspired our modern day cards, this game is fast diminishing art which requires extensive line drawing skills, patient maturing drying and lacquer treatment. Primarily, mythological themes are used most common being Dashavatara incarnations. Typically, a set is of 54 or 108 cards. The study of ganjipha game reveal that there were various regional centres and schools such as Sawantwadi, Tanjavur (south indian), Hyderabad (dakhani), Delhi (mughal) which had their own unique depictions and styles. Unfortunately, this game is mostly exported as handicraft and rarely played now. Artist is generally paid peanuts. Today, sadly this game is beyond reach of common man and children who are the actual audience for this game. The balance need to be struck, where the original artist gets his/her due and identity and common masses can access and play this heritage game !:)
