Date: 01/10/2013 Time: 03:42 Incident: Barn Fire Location: B1078 near Ashbocking At 03:42 this morning one crew from Woodbridge were mobilised to this lcoation following reports of a fire in the open. Firefighters were in attendance by 04:09 and almost immediately requested two further appliances. The two further appliances were both mobilised from Princes Street. An informative message was received at 04:20 stating that this incident was a barn well alight and the fire was spreading to 2 adjacent wooden barns. At this time 2 hose reels were being used to fight the fire and a main pump was being set up into an open water supply. At 04:36 two further appliances were requested and these were mobilised from Debenham and Ipswich East. The command unit from Woodbridge along with a support pump from Needham Market were also mobilised. A further informative was received at 05:21 stating that the barn contained in excess of 750 tonnes of straw and that the incident had been sectorised. One major pump and one light portable pump had been set into open water and 4 monitors, 2 hose reels and 1 jet were in use. Efforts were made to stop any of the water run off entering the nearby body of open water. Another informative was received at 05:57 stating that the fire was surrounded. Monitors remained in use and two light weight pumps and one main pump were still set into open water. One of the adjacent structures was identified as having an asbestos roof which had been affected by heat but it was confirmed that it was not a safety hazard. Another informative was received at 06:30 stating that there had been a reduction in firefighting so it was expected that some appliances would be leaving shortly. The appliance from Needham Market left the scene at 07:20 but at 07:21 an informative was received requesting a water carrier to attend at normal road speed. The water carrier was mobilised from Leiston. The appliance from Woodbridge left the scene at 07:35. Informative message received at 07:41 stating that that the cladding had fallen from the sides of the barn but the roof was still inatct, as was the straw stack inside. It is expected that this incident will be protracted over the coming days. The appliance from Debenham left the scene at 07:42. It is currently 07:53 and the following appliances are still in attendance; 1 Command Unit from Woodbridge 2 pumps from Princes Street 1 pump from Ipswich East. The water carrier from Leiston is still mobile to this incident.
