Date: 25th January 2014 Topic: BE DETERMINED TO BE CHARTERED IN 2014 (V) Read: Rom 8: 19-23 Azusa Street, USA’s Revival A recent discussion I had with someone very close to me, living in Canada challenged my Christian faith and disposition towards the call of God. I had no choice than to re-appraise my commitment to the work of God after our discussion. She said a number of us are found of complaining about the rising satanic activities around us yet we are not ready to curtail them by paying the price to stir up a revival. At this point, she referred to a black man who caused a worldwide revival in Azusa, USA from where Pentecostal fire stemmed from spreading all over the world. To my amazement, she said she wished that she could convert the 9 hours she spends on her daily studies to seek the face of God and that she was certain of a great end-time revival. Let us consider brief achievements of this black man revivalist in the USA: 1. He was the son of a slave. 2. He was a one-eye black man in the midst of the white supremacy whose message brought all races, colours etc together. He refused all manners of intimidation. 3. He preached the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Those who attended could dance, sing, laugh, and speak in tongues for 3 days. ‘’It was led by William J. Seymour, an African American preacher. It began with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and continued until roughly 1915. The revival was characterized by ecstatic spiritual experiences accompanied by miracles, dramatic worship services, speaking in tongues, and inter-racial mingling. The participants were criticized by the secular media and Christian theologians for behaviors considered to be outrageous and unorthodox, especially at the time. Today, the revival is considered by historians to be the primary catalyst for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century’’. (Culled from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Brethren, what is your excuse; why can’t you revive your family, community, and the nation? What will you be remembered for? Do not condemn yourself, you still have a chance; wake up and start something radical for Jesus today. A Chartered Christian is a Revivalist! Peace!
