Dave and Bob are rather proud tonight! Dave has been an active booster of the Erie All-City Marching Band for the past 12 years, and this year Dave and Bob were asked to build the props for this years show! So tonight we are more than proud to announce that Erie All-City Marching Band won the caption awards for both HIGH VISUAL and HIGH GENERAL EFFECT and 1st place overall at the Meadville Competition. That tops their prior performance at North East Competition when they won the caption award for HIGH VISUAL and 1st place overall! So, that is two 1st place wins in a row for the Erie All-City Marching Band and we are proud to be a part of the excitement! This years show is called The Grind. The story is the depiction of our daily hectic lives, from the time when we wake up and all through the work day. As a clever twist, the band has incorporated a theme that also puts a play on the title of the show with the creation of a coffee shop also called The Grind. The Color Guard is dressed as coffee shop waitresses with our senior Color Guard dressed in white and red that emulates the character of FLO from the hit comedy show from years ago known as Mels Diner. The storyline shows all of the characters waking to an alarm clock and beginning another hectic day, proceeds to show the crazy traffic as they get to work that includes stress related music and honking horn sounds. As lunchtime approaches, we see a mad scurry to the local coffee shop for a good dose of caffeine! Flo serves the customers coffee at the counter and the customers happily savor the flavor of a good cup of coffee! In the background a billboard advertises The Grind coffee shop, with the slogan PUT MORE JOLT IN YOUR JAVA! while the rest of the Color Guard spins oversized coffee stirrers and carry waitress trays around with more coffee to serve to the thirsty customers. This coffee break creates a jolt of energy in the band, and they enthusiastically get back to work and finish their day. The musical accompaniment is JAZZ related, which harkens back to the good old days of the 1950s! The ending of the show reflects the reality of our hectic workdays as the entire band goes to sleep on the field. And immediately, the alarm clock goes off again to announce the start of another hectic day! Dave and Bob are so proud of what these kids have done this year!
