(David Koros mkombozi ) the manipulator & Key ICC witnesses David Koros of Centre Against Torture, Eld is said to be out as a witness, courtsey theKenyanpost. ;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, the 17th of January 2012 - Reports are emerging that a key witness for the prosecution in the Hague trials has quit the witness protection programme and refused to participate in any other proceedings of the court. If the information is true then this revelation throws a serious monkey wrench into Prosecutor’s case against the Ocampo six since the witness, referred to as witness No.6 in the confirmation proceedings, is believed to be its linchpin witness in the case against William Ruto, Henry Kosgey and journalist Joshua Sang. The witness, who has been identified by some media outlets as David Koros, is now seeking asylum in Europe after leaving the accommodations that he had been provided with under the witness protection programme run by the ICC. 'The man who quit ICC programme is Koros, the NGO world man who used to work with Ken Wafula of The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Eldoret,' said the source. 'David is now in Geneva, (Switzerland) and is out of ICC protection programme after excessive demands. He is now an asylum though he is still an ICC witness” added the source. The reason for Koros’ decision to quit testifying for the prosecution is reportedly because he had made outrageous demands in exchange for his testimony which included a sizeable amount of money. The prosecution refused to yield to his demands, perhaps mistaking them to be a bit of the inevitable brinkmanship that one has to contend with when dealing with Kenyans, but alas Koros was not bluffing and he soon quit the programme. Rumours have been rife that Koros would quit the programme ever since he left Kenya to go to Tanzania en route to the Hague. From leaked e-mail correspondence between him and the ICC, Koros appears to have been concerned with two main issues; whether or not the ICC witness protection programme is safe enough to shield him from people who may want to harm him for testifying and also ahem…the small matter of his compensation. Koros apparently felt he had to be appropriately compensated if he was going to put his neck on the line. The issue of his safety was taken care when he was moved from Tanzania to Europe but the question of monetary compensation was reportedly never resolved to his liking. Lawyers for Ruto and Kosgey referred to Koros as a liar and wanted the court to not to give his testimony any currency. The news of Koros’ quitting the ICC witness programme comes as Kenyans eagerly count down the days to the 23rd of this month when they will hear whether or not the ICC judges will confirm charges against the Ocampo six.
