Day 10: Try it on and see if it fits. Today was like any other day on the set. People in line, rushing children to the awaiting arms of Santa, candy handed out, and snaps of the camera. What Ive found interesting this year is that travelers from far and wide are here in this locale... Dawsonville, Georgia, either visiting, transferring for work, on assignment, family and of course celebrating the holiday season. In one of my earlier posts I mentioned some folks from Trinidad, Tabago, New Zealand, and South Africa. Today my visitations around the world continued. Awaiting in line was a young woman who apparently is here from Israel as a contractor working with Home Depot. Her assignment is for a period of 4 months, and she will be staying in this area for that period of time. Her traveling partner-her best friend is also with her during this time and excited to learn more about American customs, life, and of course the area they will be residing. The one young lady approached the set, very shy but also eager to sit with Santa and have her picture taken... the other sat off set refusing to engage in the moment, just looking on about the set and the food court as if she really did not want a thing to do with what her best friend was participating in. The young lady now sitting on my lap as the pictures commenced sat and told me all about her travels, her visit here and the excitement she felt for the holidays... and of course the opportunity to sit with Santa-after all-this was her first time. She was polite enough to go through the routine of questions and even to the point of telling me what she wanted for Christmas-she was beaming! When we were finished, I escorted her off the set, and while my work was completed with her, I turned to her friend sitting off set. I grabbed one of the chairs next to her and offered my hand in thanks for coming to the set, sharing time with us, and her friend. I asked why she didnt participate in the shot, and she answered I am from Israel, and we do not celebrate Christmas, which makes sense since the predominant population claims to be of Jewish faith (76+%). Ive never celebrated Christmas, and have never expected to do this such a thing. But I find it interesting though-so now I am in America-I must try and understand what this is all about-be a part of the celebration of Christmas, and see it for myself, she continued. At that point I responded by reaching out my hand in an offer to shake hers, and with that she reached out and held mine, I looked into her eyes, and with a big smile I replied, Well I am an ambassador for Christmas, and on behalf of all those who do believe in the spirit of Christmas, The Christmas Story, and the Holiday Season-I welcome you in the name of Santa Claus! May your journey and discovery be a magical one! She leaned forward, gave me a hug, and with her own glorious smile responded-I am indeed going to try and understand what this is all about-Merry Christmas to you as well! Ladies and gents-be an ambassador for the season to someone who might not understand... some say seeing is believing, some say that its even more, its the thought, the feeling you get by sharing of yourself and the goodness that comes from within. We all have different ideas on how to celebrate-for some some-not to celebrate, and so it goes... The magic of the season is here, and we hope that mankind will embrace this, share this, indulge and try it on for sighs! Love Santa.
