Day 12- A crazy day today! Chris called home to say that Xerxes (our male vizsla) had trouble getting up this morning. His hind legs werent working for him and he had diarrhea. Chris was on a dirt road waiting for a friendly to pass so he could get to a vet. He hung up and called back later in the day saying the dog seemed better and that he was going to camp near Rt103 at Clarendon Shelter in case Xerxes needed a vet in the morning. In the meantime, I researched vet clinics and found one that was fairly close and warned them Chris may be coming in with a sick pooch. Later in the afternoon, hiking to the shelter. the dogs legs were dragging and Chris turned back, called the clinic, and took a taxi to the office in No. Clarendon. (Thank god for cell phones!!) Turned out he is ok---had inflamed bowels (stagnant water? ate something bad?) and his hind legs were reacting to, and trying to protect, his sore innards. Tonight Im standing by with a full tank of gas, and the car pointing to the road, just in case..... Chris is so calm during an emergency! Footnote: this afternoon I recvd a letter from the Long Trail from Chris. Apparently he had given it to a friendly to mail for him. So happy to read his illegible, sweet letter!
