Day 15: The Office of the Fire Marshal is responsible for determining the area of origin and cause of fires that happen within #HoCoMD. One of the tools they use to make those determinations is Horton, a two year old labrador/golden retriever mix. State Farm provided a grant to fund Hortons procurement, as well as train both him and his handler, Lt. Carl Saunders. As the only non-State Fire Marshal dogs in Maryland, it’s not uncommon for the team to travel as far west as Hagerstown, MD, to assist in determining the origin and cause of a fire. The duo has also assisted investigators in Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Baltimore counties, as well as Baltimore City. #Bestof2014
