Day #16 SLEIGH RIDE - This song is great just as an instrumental version. The lyrical version is fun too. You cant go wrong with either version of the song! HISTORY OF THE SONG: Sleigh Ride is a popular song usually associated with Christmas. It was originally written as an instrumental piece in 1946 by Leroy Anderson, who intended it to refer to any winter event, not specifically Christmas. Mitchell Parish added words later, as he did for several of Andersons compositions. The most famous recording of it is by the Boston Pops Orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fielder. INTERESTING FACTS: Currier & Ives was a popular printing company in the 19th century. It closed in 1907, 39 years before the song was composed. The horse whinny five bars at the end is made by a trumpet half-valve glissando. The whip cracks are made by a percussionist, preferably with a slapstick, although rimshots are also acceptable.
