Day 17 I am Thankful for my sweet neighbor Ms. Ronnie that lives - TopicsExpress

Day 17 I am Thankful for my sweet neighbor Ms. Ronnie that lives across the street. She bought the house less than a year before Hurricane Katrina, is an RN, single, and had no children. She told me she bought the 4 bedroom house because she wanted to be a foster mom to teen children and felt she had the means to do so. However, Hurricane Katrina changed that because hospitals closed and suddenly she was working all kinds of shifts instead of being home at night, thus not being able to be a foster parent. She turned 50 earlier this year, and will be leaving later this week to go stay with family in Pennsylvania. I know this will be the last week we will ever see Ms. Ronnie, she has cancer. A quiet neighbor she has always been, but oh so friendly. Chris used to cut her yard when he was a teen and after he left for college she asked Jody to take care of it for her. I would take a meal periodically to her, grab her paper or trash can and put it by the back door, or Jody may cut a tree or repair a fence...its just what neighbors do. 2 years ago we were making plans to help her because we thought she was about to have surgery on her shoulder; she had complained to the doctors that she was in pain. After all she was an RN and knew something wasnt right, but they insisted it was her rotator cuff. How upsetting it must have been for her to discover the lump in her breast after a year of trying to convince the doctors that she had done nothing to strain her shoulder/arm. Ill make one last meal to take over to her and her mom this week before they leave Friday. I will offer to help pack, see if she needs to give us a key to the house, offer to keep an eye on things, but the hardest part will be to tell her goodbye.
