Day 2: Wyoming Roundup. Tuesday was frustrating once again. Our observation point was 1.5 miles from the trap site on a big gravel pile. Here is what we saw: The Big Empty as the locals call this vast area of southern Wyoming. And what we mostly saw was a lot of sagebrush and the heads of some horses moving ahead of the helicopter on that far ridge. We eventually moved to another observation point,(no closer to the out-of-sight trap), and we did eventually see some horses as they were driven in by the helicopters. What was most disturbing, however, was watching the horses as they were driven by on the nearby road. 63 horses lost their freedom and their families yesterday--forever.
