Day 2 of 12 days of Thanksgiving (11 days of business in Elmwood) Day 2: Competition We at Hickry Stick, Inc. are thankful for all the high quality food establishments in the Elmwood area. In a small town like Elmwood the various places to eat help provide variety to the people in the area which helps keep business in town. If approached properly this can turn into a synergy that helps business of all the food establishments. What there is no room for is playing favorites. If there are a little over 2000 people in a town and each person will only eat at 2 of the eateries, then everyone suffers. On the other hand, if everyone is willing to patronize all establishments then everyone wins and the restaurants are able to keep a fresher product to satisfy the customer base. Bottom line competition is good, it keeps owners honest, and quality of product high. Furthermore, Elmwood has very good owners and food establishments. Over at Uptown, Pat Obrien has a wealth of experience in the food industry that expands beyond Kersh Cafe and Uptown, Crusens may be a bar, but their product offerings and quality are better than most restaurants (I would personally compare them to an Applebees and not other bars), Gwen at Yate City deli has won awards for her pies, Roadhouse has regulars coming from Galesburg on a regular basis, and Toots Treats has some of the most economical specials in the area. On a side note was are all trying to work together for a March 8th benefit at Elmwood High School for the tornado victims in central Illinois (yes Hickry Stick is still going to participate) and talking to and working with the various restaurant owners in the area has been delightful. One may even call it A Taste of Elmwood. More info on that to come. In conclusion we are thankful for the great competition in Elmwood because they forced us to innovate and keep a high quality product. Thank you and God Bless
