Nick Viola Dre Robinson Hex Wolves Skrap Yard Matt Fanale Godflesh: this band totally changed my life. Prior to them I was rustling through the pits of punk and metal in all their various forms. On a trip to Sound Warehouse [one of the local CD shops in town] I picked up Godfleshs Slavestate EP. Everything about this CD was calling to me...artwork, titles...8 dollars?...Im getting it! Got home lit up that incense and weed and popped the CD in. Bathed in the blue light of my room...my mind was blown apart by the piston fire, warehouse shocked, slams of a drum machine [Alesis HR16]. The most gravel blasted, dirty, grinding bass. Searing, sonic washes of harmonic and inharmonic wails of guitar shrapnel. The effected rage mantras and esoteric observations articulated in blasts of shouts and screams. Drenched in atmospheres and moods...Godflesh completely unify and expand their well documented list of influences and inspirations into a total 10. If youve never seen them live, your life isnt incomplete. Quite impossible to pick just one song from them but 21 years later I still get goosebumps and a semi when this song comes on. OH! and I went back to Sound Warehouse the next day and bought Streetcleaner, Cold World, Pure, and Selfless. https://youtube/watch?v=-5fOF-lMrA8
