Day 21 in the hospital. Yesterday at this time we were getting ready to take daddy home on hospice. His breathing continued to get worse. The staff tried a mask, CPAP, and then the ventilator. First response team was called & he was rushed to ICU. Right before he quit talking he looked at mama & said I love you. Those are the last words he said to me on Monday night before I left & the last words he said to Blake on Sunday. The most precious words that can ever be said! We had a waiting room full last night of family & friends. Just what daddy would want. Hes always loved a big family gathering. We all got to see him, hold his hand, kiss his forehead & tell him how much we loved him & how proud we are of him. I got the priveledge to pray with him & everyone in the room, mainly for peace for all of us. Everytime mama said fishing hed start moving around. At one point he squeezed our hands. He knew we were there! This morning at 6 am visit they started weaning sedation. Mama saw him with his eyes open & he tried to talk to her. He was probably telling her to grab his duck dynasty pjs & lets bust outta here so he can get home to his dog!! It sure has been some hard days lately but I think of all the good days weve had with daddy. He is the true definition of a Christian, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, & a friend!!!! I love him so much. My heart hurts & my tears are many but we will get thru this, one day at a time, holding on to Gods hand.
