Day 22: today marks three weeks of Nathan being inpatient. After - TopicsExpress

Day 22: today marks three weeks of Nathan being inpatient. After spending a week at Childrens in Boston, we were transferred up to Crotched Mountain Rehab. (For those just tuning in. 😃) I posted a video of Nathan doing physical therapy yesterday for those who may have missed it. Some people were shocked to see his deficits and how significant they are while some were shocked to see how far he has come. It really is a mixed bag. For a few days after the surgery to remove the tumor from his spine, Nathan was unable to move his right leg and it was very concerning to the doctors down in Boston. He is slowly regaining the feeling in it and has some use in it now. Nathan has had significant neuropathic pain in his lower extremities and we believe that could be a barrier in his therapeutic progress. He started a new med a few days ago and we are hoping that will help with the pain. Nathan works very hard every day to regain strength and mobility. It is very hard on him but he is a warrior and his strength amazes me. The staff at Crotched Mountain has been amazing and have truly supported us through this process. We are very grateful for that. ❤️ Every day is a new day and we look at it as an opportunity. An opportunity to get Nathan back on his feet and to put this behind us. Nathan faces months of rehabilitation but we know that with his grit and determination, he will get the job done. There is a possibility that Nathan has permanent nerve damage and may never walk normally again. Like Ive said from the beginning, as long as the tumor is benign, we can deal with anything that is thrown our way. The sheer terror of that tumor having the possibility of being malignant, shook us to the core and immediately made us realize how blessed we are that this turned out to be benign. This will be a long and hard road but I know that in the end, it will all work out. It always has a way of doing just that. We met with the doctor and the team last Thursday at the rehab and everyone is pleased with Nathans progress. Nathan will likely be inpatient for at least a couple more weeks. We are unable to take him home in the state that he is in right now. He is still nonweightbearing and needs a lot of assistance. Poor guy. 😕 It breaks my heart to watch him in physical therapy but I know this is what will make him better. We just need to stay focused on the common goal of getting Nate back to where he was before this all happened. In closing, I would like to thank each and every one of you that has offered Nathan and our family prayers. We are uplifted by them and thank God for the healing occurring in Nathans body. We know that with Him, all things are possible. ❤️ We would also like to extend a huge THANK YOU to those involved in the meal train. Between the gift certificates and yummy meals, you amazing folks have kept us fed and have taken the huge burden of trying to think of what to make for dinner every day off of our shoulders. Thank you, thank you!!! ❤️ We have been so blessed by this. We would also like to extend our immeasurable gratitude for those who have donated monetarily to our family. We have one income and we rely on Pats overtime shifts to get us through. With all of this going on, he is unable to pick up extra shifts. The cost of going back-and-forth to the rehab is also very costly and you folks have been amazing. The donations and gift cards for gas have really helped to offset the costs related to this. I have put over 1000 miles on my car in three weeks. Pat has put close to 1000 miles on his truck. You all are our saving grace. ❤️ We would be drowning right now without the help from all of you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so very much. We promise to pay it forward once we are out of this situation. Thank you all so much and know that we love you all dearly. Now go hug your kids! ❤️
