Day 25 March 9 Exodus 22-24 Psalm 25 Exodus 20:23-23:33 is called the Book of the Covenant (see 24:7) . It is further explanation of the 10 Commandments. Look at the timeline from Dr Penhallegon. It shows the 10 Commandments as the center, the next ring around it is the Book of the Covenant (here labeled “B. of C.”) All of these laws about restitution and compensation are a guide to living in a world marred by sin and its effects. Here we find how God wanted people to be punished in the Israelite community for sins. Why would God set up a system like this? Who is he trying to protect? Look at 22:21-24. The covenant was established with blood, lots and lots of blood. Blood on the book, blood on the altar, blood on the people. God gives us a way to partake in the blood of the covenant as well (Matthew 26:28). How is it the same, yet different?
