Day 26: Hong Kong I woke up at 7:00 am & started getting ready. Ally hopped over to McDonald’s to get an iced coffee, and I met her at Jordan’s MTR station at 8:40. We got on the train and shortly after arrived in Central station to meet up with Blair and Gaia at KFC; we all headed straight to customs at the Macau Ferry Terminal. For those of you who don’t know, Macau is a special administrative region of China, and you need to pass through customs with your passport in order to enter. We made it to our seats and sat back for about an hour until we reached the island. After getting off the boat, we could all notice the significant temperature change; it’s hotter in Macau. We popped over to a bus line and took one to our hotel, The Sheraton. The drive was scenic, lots of action! Macau is known to as the “Las Vegas” of Asia, so there were tons of replica buildings that look just like the ones in the states. It was absolutely gorgeous when we arrived to the hotel, definitely 5 stars! There were gorgeous chandeliers, a jungle in the center of the lobby, and friendly, attentive staff that succumbed to your every desire. We weren’t able to check in until 3:00, so we left our luggage with the concierge. Next, we took a taxi to a Portuguese place called Fernando’s. Apparently Macau is known for their ‘fusion’ cuisine that combines Chinese and Portuguese food. However, due to my weird experiences with food in Hong Kong, I opted to not order anything and munched on some yummy bread instead. Gaia ordered some fried rice that ended up being HUGE, so I helped her finish it :D ! It turned out to be fantastic! After lunch we went over to a local shop next door and enjoyed some divine haagen dazs ice cream bars, I had coffee almond crunch, yum! Next to the restaurant was a beautiful beach that we walked over and enjoyed for a bit. Subsequently, we took the bus to a touristy marketplace and shopped around for a bit. We walked to these colonial style houses called “The Taipa Houses;” each one had a museum inside! We saw some cool modern art then decided to walk back to the hotel. After several photo ops, we made it back and got our rooms. At 5:00 pm, Gaia and I had tickets to a well-known show called “The House of Dancing Water.” We were cutting the time close, so we SPRINTED there; luckily we were just in the knick of time! The show was absolutely amazing. We had VIP tickets, front row, center stage, free drinks; the works! I’ve seen several shows within my lifetime, and this was BY FAR the best I’ve seen. The stage floor is constantly changing between a pool and flat land, impossible to describe, but incredible. I recommend everyone to add it to his or her bucket list. After the show, we met up with Blair and Ally to go to dinner. We went to a very elegant buffet that had a vast variety of food. After the first plate, we went back for a second, then a third, then a fourth, then dessert! It was so delicious; we just couldn’t stop! After dinner, we headed to the casino baby!!! Why go to Macau if you aren’t going to partake in a little gambling!?!? I have little experience, so I stuck with roulette and slot machines….lost about $30 USD, but it was so worth it! We walked through the surrounding mall to get back to our hotel and there was a little river running through that offers gondola rides thru the mall, everything looked like Venice! So neat! We headed back to the room to get some shut eye for the big day ahead. In less than 12 hours, I would be jumping off a building. It would be a long night of restless sleep.
