Day 27 Mlibizi - Binga We made a democratic unilateral decision - TopicsExpress

Day 27 Mlibizi - Binga We made a democratic unilateral decision to ride the road more frequently travelled today. I think Gareth was more relieved than us that his two bumbling athletes would be within sight of the car all day. 7a.m saw us on our bikes heading back into the rising sun and ready to take on the day. Some tar road gave us a good head start and also the ability to talk as even I find it difficult to talk when we ride single track and then on a day like yesterday we are both grumpy so we ride separate and dont talk then either. I think we are lucky that we dont fight (yet! ). Whenever a potential or actual problem pitches up we both stop and have a sensible discussion about all possible solutions. Usually this is over a handful of nut mix or a boiled egg but we look at all the options and decide on one. We can make some pretty stupid decisions but they are always made jointly so no one gets the blame when the plan doesnt work, we just suck it up and make another one... Anyway today was mentally as well as physically enjoyable. Easy route that we knew could be ridden and the chance to enjoy the flowing landscape and changing scenary under our wheels. I mentioned the Blue Cross yesterday. ...this event starts tomorrow at Mahenya and everyone will be in camp now with nerves racing and adrenaline pumping. The route is a reverse of our first week on the bikes almost a month ago, not as close to the border but parts of it, like Tank Nek, are exactly the return route of what we have covered. Many of the Blue Cross competitors race the event fast which makes it harder cycling than what we are doing but nonetheless we are amazed that we have covered the Blue Cross, the Tour de Tuli AND the Hwange pumping Legs for Water event in location and distance and another 1000km in three short weeks. All of these events are fund-raising cycles and we send all our best wishes and support to the Blue Cross for their next 500km for the Zimbabwe S.P.C.A. It will be so nice to be out on the road every day knowing that across the country others are also suffering on bikes in the name of animal welfare!! With 30km covered we stopped for breakfast and a route discussion with Gareth and then carried on. We do feel a bit bad when we take the cop-out of riding a tar road and perversely were pleased when the turn towards Siabuwa took us back onto the dirt. We cycled our total of 77km with complete comfort and then loaded the bikes up and drove down into Binga where we are staying at the Binga Croc Farm with Ant Sherran who has opened the doors of his home to us. Tomorrow we head towards Siabuwa and an acacia or baobab tree with our name on it. A note on Payments and Sponsorship! Many people are asking where to donate money, both from abroad and locally here in Zim. On our websitezimboundarywe really tried hard to set up a PayPal account. ..However this facility only arrived in Zim the week before we left and a month later is proving an impossible task to set up. It also doesnt help that we didnt yet register properly as a fund raising entity so as usual it is probably our fault that it is difficult to donate to the anti-poaching cause on our behalf! However as Ashley very emotively pointed out in his post this is a joint responsibility and we are going to have to task all of you with a bit more work than you would like in order to help the anti-poaching units in Zimbabwe on our behalf. I have put bank account details below, this is the VFAPU account. Charles Brightman showed me a print out of the account in the Falls and the Zimboundary deposits that have come in are clearly indicated by that reference. Unfortunately you cant pay by credit card - we are going to task you with making a bank transfer but when you get irritated with us that it is not easy please remember that what we are doing out here is also not always easy but is our commitment to all of you, your children, our wildlife and the APUs and scouts who look after all of it for us.... We also know a bank transfer costs more than a Cc payment but if you get a bunch of peoples cash together and make one payment you can split the charge (thats how its done in Zim!). So we are sorry but thank you. Lets get this momentum going and Im sure Tonya will keep track of it for us and let us know when we hit exciting figures! The money will not all go to VFAPU but Ashley and I will organise the disbursement when we are done and let you all know where it goes and what it buys.... So. Bank account below Acc Name : VICTORIA FALLS WILDLIFE PROTECTION TRUST. BANK : STANBIC BANK, VICTORIA FALLS Acc No. 0240066048001 Branch Code :1023 SWIFT : SBICZWHXXXX Ref : ZIMBOUNDARY Thats it for tonight. We had a great tour of the Croc farm and a beautiful Kariba sunset on the Sherrans front deck. Goodnight all from The Zimboundary Team
