Day 3: I am obsessed with The Grand Budapest Hotel. I have respected the talent of Wes Anderson since I saw his magnum opus, The Royal Tenenbaums. His whimsy, wit, integration of miniatures, obsessive attention to detail especially in the set decoration and props blow my mind. Each frame has beautiful symmetry and composition. Not to mention his ability to bring together huge ensemble casts and make each cast member shine. The reason Grand Budapest is on this list over his other films boils down to 1. Ralph Fiennes (is spelled neither rafe nor fines. Discuss) and 2. Joy. Ralph Fiennes was absolutely brilliant. He greatly contributed to the joy I saw and felt in this film more than any of his others. I am obsessed with The Grand Budapest Hotel.
