Day 4 : Into Africa, part1 Woke up with that feeling like I had - TopicsExpress

Day 4 : Into Africa, part1 Woke up with that feeling like I had drunk too much the night before... Didnt even have a sip of anything though, classic symptoms of being dehydrated. Went straight into some prayer and read the word of God. Caught up again with my beautiful wife on the phone too. Daniel, George and I sat and had breakfast this morning at the Boab Lodge (yes thats the name of the place Im staying hehe). It was a three course meal! first fruit, then a strange looking wheetbix with hot milk and sugar then finally another meal that had sweet potato, bread and something else... But I forget! There was a juice but a bee was telling me I wasnt allowed to drink it, and we also had tea. I was very full afterwards. Kimathi, another of Daniels brothers joined us for this breakfast. We then went to Daniels parents house to look around in the day light and I met a young little girl (pictured) called Blessings who was doing a great job of stealing my heart! She is indeed an amazing blessing to her father Kimathi. Daniel, George and I went to a property next door where a man who is a very good friend to Daniel was laying in a room on a bed. I was invited to see him. To me he looked like he was wasting away, his body was very thin and I understand he is blind. I wanted to give him something to perhaps to make life a little easier for him, we also were able to pray for him. It was disheartening to see him in these arid conditions without people tending to his conditions. You know when I first got into Nairobi I was thinking to just turn around and go back to Australia. This land appears to be filled with so many desperate needs and the enormity of it was smothering me. There is very few white people located here. In fact since we have left the airport I dont think Ive seen another Caucasian at all! Before I came here I was concerned about this, ie feeling isolated in a sea of black people, but what has really hit me instead is that the poor people look at me as if I will be the answer to there problems. The other day for instance when we stopped for the rice, there was some children begging from Daniel and I. And Im ashamed to admit I didnt give them anything in the fear of being mobbed at the sign of money being given to one. Anyway, back to it, we looked closely at a Boab tree on his property and wow they are MASSIVE compared to our Boab trees! Perhaps 3 to 4 times bigger than our largest ones! (Pictured). There was bats living inside! And yes they even decided to wee on us... As we were looking up trying to take photos!!! We then went to a place were two rivers join into one. The turner river (2nd largest in Kenya), and another but I can never remember its name. At that site and at various other locations after we saw hollow logs that had been put into trees. Theyre there to attract bees so they can produce honey. We saw a young boy who was fishing (pictured). Very simple stuff, just a stick, some line, a hook and bit of food... And he caught a fish as we watched him, though it was very tiny! As we walked around the shoreline of the Turner river we had children following us. The last two photos show where we climbed up a steep...... Well it wasnt a cliff but whatever it was it was steep. Unnecessary risk #1 hehe
