Day 4 of 5, It has been fun to poke around back through my portfolio... Here are three photos from way back. These were all forged during my time with Richard Bent, a great smith and teacher who really encouraged and developed my skills, the soft organic style of these pieces cleary shows his influence. Forged near the end of my time with Richard, Bug was one of three fantasy insects, this one if i remember correctly blending a squid and a daddy long legs! The fruit bowl stand was commissioned as a wedding present for two very dear friends, simple, elegant forging. Hummingbird was one of a series of balanced bird forms, they came about through a session of playing with a pile of scrap shapes, and experimenting with radical cross sectional changes and plasticity.
