Day 4 of the 7 Day Gratitude Challenge: 1) I am grateful for my grandparents – Bill and Virginia Barrett and Lynn and Sis Coffinbarger. They showed me the definition of faith, of caring for others, of what marriage should be, and that I was always important. I feel very lucky to have had them all the way through graduating college, and I am lucky enough my Grandma Coffinbarger is still alive. I do miss the ones who have gone on but there is no doubt in my mind where they currently are. 2) I am grateful for mentors I have had along the way in my life, those people who were not my family but yet chose to take time to help teach and groom me professionally. Bob Forestandi, Ted Johnson, Carolyn Bishop Nelson, April Hamilton, …. I am sure there are others. The ins and outs of treatment, diagnosis, advocacy, and navigating the ever-changing mental health care system - they are the core of my professional maturity and allowed me to grow without being controlling. 3) I am grateful for Soo Bahk Do and Tim Clyde, Sa Bom Nim, for giving me a path that helps me focus and unwind when I need it most, that gives me a path for improving myself, internally, externally, and spiritually, and a path that has connected me with great friends and further mentors in my life. It has helped me more than I think I can adequately express, showing just how grateful I am to be part of this wonderful art. I now challenge Susan Bettendorf and Jill Cantafio.
