Day 5 - Tournon-Saint-Martin to Magnac-Laval Distance travelled today - 44.5 miles Total distance travelled to date - 278.5 miles Phew, finally a slightly shorter day! I really needed that! Ive really been feeling the strain the last day or two - I think Id slightly overstretched myself with my daily mileages, maybe if Id tried to do 5 or 10 miles less per day it would have been ok. Plus there are a couple of other factors adding to the difficulty, such as the constant headwind (not a gale, but enough to make a difference!) and the fact that Im riding my Viking hybrid, which is several kilos heavier than Bessie, the Specialized road bike I road across the States on. Theres kind of a balance between fun and challenge which I try to strike with my bike trips, and so far this time its been tending a bit too far towards the latter! Well, the good news is Ive only got one more day tomorrow - which from the map looks like its another sub-50 miler - and then its my rest day! Anyway, enough of my moaning! On the plus side, Ive now arrived in the pretty village of Magnac-Laval, and Im staying in possibly the nicest accomodation Ive found so far, a B&B owned by a lovely British lady (from somewhere in the north east, judging by her accent) called Liz. She couldnt be more welcoming and friendly! She welcomed me with a lovely cup of tea, and shes just said shes going to cook me a steak and chips for my dinner!
