Day 5 of the July Prayer Challenge! There is a focus for you as a wife or parent or both! ----------------- For your husband: His Affection “Lord, I pray for open physical affection between my husband and me. Enable each of us to lay aside self-consciousness or apathy and be effusive in our display of love. Help us to demonstrate how much we care for and value each other. Remind us throughout each day to affectionately touch one another in some way. Help us to not be cold, undemonstrative, uninterested, or remote. Enable us to be warm, tender, compassionate, loving, and adoring. Break through any hardheadedness on our part that refuses to change and grow. If one of us is less affectionate to the other’s detriment, bring us into balance. Where any lack of affection has planted a negative view of marriage in our children, or taught them an incorrect way of relating to a marriage partner, help us to model the right way so that they can observe it. Show us how to openly confess our errors to them and demonstrate our commitment to live differently. Change our habits of indifference or busyness. May we not so take each other for granted that we don’t make the effort to reach out and touch one another with affection. Help us not to weaken the marriage through neglect of this vital means of communication. I pray that we always “greet one another with a kiss of love” (1 Peter 5:14). I know that only the transforming power of the Holy Spirit can make changes that last. I trust You to transform us and make us the husband and wife You called us to be.” “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4) “Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.” (1 Corinthians 10:24) -------------------- For your child: Establishing an Eternal Future “Lord, I bring (name of child) before You and ask that You would help her (him) grow into a deep understanding of who You are. Open her (his) heart and bring her (him) to a full knowledge of the truth about You. Lord, You have said in Your Word, ‘If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved’ (Romans 10:9). I pray for that kind of faith for my child. May she (he) call You her (his) Savior, be filled with Your Holy Spirit, acknowledge You in every area of her (his) life, and choose always to follow You and Your ways. Help her (him) to fully believe that Jesus laid down His life for her (him) so that she (he) might have life eternally and abundantly now. Help her (him) to comprehend the fullness of Your forgiveness so that she (he) will not live in guilt and condemnation. I pray that she (he) will live a fruitful life, ever increasing in the knowledge of You. May she (he) always know Your will, have spiritual understanding, and walk in a manner that is pleasing in Your sight. You have said in Your Word that You will pour out Your Spirit on my offspring (Isaiah 44:3). I pray that You would pour out Your Spirit upon (name of child) this day. Thank You, Lord, that You care about her (his) eternal future even more than I do and that it is secure in You. In Jesus’ name I pray that she (he) will not doubt or stray from the path You have for her (him)all the days of her (his) life.” “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him u at the last day.” (John 6:40) “This is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” (1 John 5:11)
