Day 5 today! Yesterday, our students started the day off with some classroom time learning about water and power and the best practices in conservation of those resources. It was a fascinating and very thought-provoking presentation by Patrick Murphy, a professional engineer from the Virginia-based Vanderweil Engineers, with LEED certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design). Among topics discussed was the use of algae on the side of buildings (the kids thought that was pretty cool). You can Google it for more information and please do - lots to learn. After that, the students had some stretching exercises outside before starting back on the build. Photos available of all of this in our Behind the Scenes album on this page. Then it was back to work with a visit by a TV news crew. At mid-day, RB had a talk with the students during which he asked them if theyve heard of John Wayne. Many raised their arms to indicate they had. When you guys ride into town, raise your heads high and be proud, RB told the kids and we, of course, couldnt agree more! As for progress yesterday on the tiny house, we now have top plates, steps and a roof! Today comes staining! Wear clothes that can get messy. To our build team, thanks for all of your hard work. To everyone else, thank you for your interest and following this project!
