Day 7: A movie that reminds me of my past - (there are so many) Distant past - Star Wars 1977: At 11 years old and spending part of my summer with relatives in Pittsburgh, PA.,, my teenage cousin and her boyfriend took me to see it. I remember sitting in the back seat on the way home from the movie still mesmerized by the sounds of the light sabers and the space ships, the bigness of it all was overwhelming. Back then, you could buy records of blockbuster movies and listen to them (pre-VHS/DVD days). I listened to the movie Star Wars over and over and over again,, until I knew every line and sound effect in every scene. Distant past 2 - The Breakfast Club and St. Elmos Fire: John Hughes movies affirmed that I was not alone in the world and encouraged me to look forward, past high school. He was right, there is life after high school. Alison from The Breakfast Club was wrong, my heart did not die when I got old. Not so distant past - Rolling: Will not explain. If you know it , you do . If you dont you dont. The universe was merciful and preserved me to maturity, and for that Im grateful. It was a time that transformed my world view and connected me to humanity. This movie puts that time in my life in a nutshell; at least 10 years of weekends are right there on film. Holy cow. Recent past - I Melt With You: A movie about delayed adolescence and hanging on to the past. When I watched this movie for the first time I was stunned. Once again, I saw myself through a character in a movie. I Melt With You confirmed that growing up was a good decision.
