Day 76 of #100daysofmusic - Music movies Previously I have touched on music documentaries and movie soundtracks and today it is movies with a music theme. This Is Spinal Tap certainly made its mark and is still mentioned quite regularly in interviews with rock stars to this day. Some of the scenes are hilarious. These go to 11 :) Get Him To The Greek I think is seriously underrated as it is very funny. You wouldnt know it from the trailer though. Im a Russell Brand fan so it may depend on whether you like him or not. Jonah Hill is excellent in this and Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Sean Combs is surprisingly good. Rock Star should have been better than it is because of Mark Wahlberg being in it and being based on a true story. It isnt terrible, just a bit forgettable. I really wanted to love Detroit Rock City being a KISS movie but the main characters are not particularly likeable. You should be cheering them on in their quest to get to the KISS concert but it is hard to care. I quite liked elements of Rock Of Ages but having seen and loved the stage show in Melbourne I was a bit disappointed. The main problem was the casting which worried me from the moment I saw the trailer. Having said that I thought Tom Cruise did a good job but Alec Baldwin was a poor choice and the Catherine Zeta-Jones role which was not in the stage show was annoying. I would like to see someone do a remake one day and follow the stage show storyline more closely and cast more appropriately. 8 Mile, Dazed And Confused and School Of Rock are good but I dont own them - maybe I should. Im sure I will have missed some good ones so please feel free to comment below on any you like. Favourite movie? Almost Famous If you havent seen it the movie is based on director Cameron Crowes experiences as a teenage writer for Rolling Stone magazine. It received four Oscar nominations and won Best Original Screenplay. Great cast, great story, great soundtrack.
