Day 79: Are rural communities net takers to the state or net gives? We disagree with the conclusions by 9 news and would have appreciated if they had shared their data with us prior to making these comments. Having said that... if urban folks want to continue believing that rural communities are net takers, that is fine. We know different. Perhaps this will mean that urban folks will support the divorce and respect our right to self-governance and self-determination through the creation of the 51st State. We believe that part of the disconnect is on the size and philosophy of governments. We know that rural communities typically want and need less government. We are more frugal with our dollars and more respectful of local control. To say that the government in the 51st state run by rural communities would the same size as a Denver-centric urban government is a stretch at best. Just taking the example of Weld County - it is a county that has no long-term debt, no short-term debt, and no county sales tax. Most of the 11 counties have similar philosophies of government - that being we must live within our means.
