Day 8 - the ugly side of Palau Pangkor. At the end of the beach I saw what looked like the perfect steam. On closer inspection the smell hit me first then I saw the rubbish. Not just a bit of flotsam jetsam but years of dumped and accumulated rubbish. This island relies on tourism but the locals and visitors abuse the very thing that draws and keeps them here. I am sad and angry. - hence the rant. There may be hope though. A round of applause for Penang which has banned polystyrene packaging. I hope the rest of Malaysia follows and Penang continues to lead the way. NZers also need to check their own backyards and behaviour. If we dont watch it we will also end up like this.
