Day 8 & 9- Well somehow the update my moms post yesterday never got to some of you guys not sure what happened but to tell you the truth Patti Palmer is learning something new each day with FB who would have thought daily updates about Erik would be her first post ! Yesterday was sort of a unsettled day for Big E at times calm but got very agitated with every turn. He started running a fever and his white blood count started to rise showing he may have something going. So the doctor being very proactive ordered a full panel of cultures (blood, urine, and secretions) and also started him right away on triple broad spectrum IV antibiotics. They also flushed, changed the packing and redressed his abdomen in the late evening. Last night he was a little more sedate but when my parents returned to the hospital this am they were met by the RN and the nephrologist (kidney specialist). They said Eriks condition had kind of deteriorated and they wanted to start dialysis. They assured my parents that it is not an emergency at this point to start the dialysis but they wanted to stay ahead of the game and again be proactive before it was an emergency. The dialysis will help the one kidney he still has to slow down and take a breather it just cant keep up at this point. It will help drain of the #50+ pounds of excess fluid and quickly filter the bad toxins out. So we again continue with one step forward and a couple back. The trauma team continues to reassure my parents Eriks recovery is going to be a very fine balancing act and that his body is very fragile the team seems to be totally on top of his care and his nursing staff continues to be wonderful. Please continue to send prayer and good mojo his way as Erik continues to be fighting his fight! Cant wait for him to wake up see his smile ! Love that boy..!
