Day 8. #everybodyyogachallenge Todays pose is Downward Facing Dog - TopicsExpress

Day 8. #everybodyyogachallenge Todays pose is Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana). I really love the versatility of this pose. @emilyloupe demonstrated a variation, so Ill demonstrate the traditional version of the posture. Heres my favorite way to find good alignment... Starting on hands and knees, I make sure my wrists are under my shoulders and my knees are under my hips. I keep my spine neutral. Then I tuck my toes under and lift my sitting bones up and back. Usually when people first move into this posture they feel tightness in the backs of their legs, so I encourage walking in place. Keeping the toes and balls of the feet on the mat, bend one knee at a time to lengthen the backs if the legs. Once the legs have loosened a bit, I like to practice reaching my hips back a bit more to lengthen out my spine and release tension in my shoulders and upper back. When you practice this pose remember to also keep your neck relaxed and shoulders broad. Oh! And it doesnt matter if your heels touch the floor! I cant wait to see your versions of this pose! Post a quick video of your own Down Dog on your Instagram page or on The Yoga Rooms Facebook page. Please tag the hosts, @emilyloupe and @rryogaroom, and also tag #everybodyyogachallenge so we can keep track of your beautiful practice! #yogaforeverybody #yoga #teachertraining #curvyyoga #beginneryoga
