Day 82 of Thankfulness. With my extremely poor showing in Social Studies came the realization that I was not a lost cause after all. For while many of my classmates got punished in our Math class by Mr. MELANIO LEDDA, I always managed to get my answers straight during recitations and quizzes. I even developed some techniques for easy recall especially for the multiplication table. Mr. LEDDA would call on each of us to stand and recite the multiplication table while his right hand was positioned to deliver the punishment if there was a mistake. His common punishments were: an upward tug at the earlobe until the pupil was standing on his heels... or a pull on a tuft of hair by the sideburns or by the nape... or a pinch on the side. And by the expression on my classmates faces, these seemed to really hurt. Mr. LEDDA was good at sensing who was not prepared and always succeeded in picking unfortunate kids who received punishments while the whole class looked on in fearful anticipation. Thank You Lord for Mr. MELANIO LEDDA... under him I realized I was not all together dumb... that I was entitled to some small yet significant triumphs, too.
