Day 9 on the countdown and were on another landmark, and history setting #1 single from Mariah. One Sweet Day was the second single released from Daydream, and the story of how this song was created, is one that lambs know quite well. Mariah had the lyrical idea for a song about someone passing away (in this case, David Cole), and she suggested to Walter that Boyz II Men would sound great on the record. So, a meeting was set up and when Boyz II Men heard the song Mariah had done, Nathan Morris (member of Boyz II Men) said that he had also written a song that had the same message lyrically about their manager, and could even sing his version over Mariahs. This was surely a sign that something extraordinary was in the works. Together, they brought the two songs together, to form One Sweet Day And indeed it was. When One Sweet Day was released, it became more than just a worldwide smash. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks in total, becoming her 10th Number 1, and to this day, no other song has come close to breaking this record. Another record that the song broke, was that it was Mariahs second consecutive single to debut at number one, giving her the unique place in history, and the first artist to have more than one number-one debut atop the charts. The music video showed the recording process that took place for the song, and Mariah would later say that she was glad that no real music video was shot, saying that it would not have had the same precious message that the recording studio video had. In terms of liver performances, she has performed the song a few times with Boyz II Men through television performances, such as the Grammys, the memorial service for Princess Diana to name a few. For tours, she and the group performed it at Madison Square Garden for her Daydream Tour DVD, and the next time they performed it on stage together was when Boyz II Men were Mariahs surprise guests for her Anaheim show for TAOM (on DVD). This song is timeless, beautiful and so heartfelt. Its a song that simply was meant to be. Here is it, One Sweet Day.
