Day Nine Mali, West Africa Recently, Muslim extremists from Mali attacked an army base and a French-owned uranium mine in Niger. The assault killed 20 people and injured dozens. Islamists also took several officers hostage. Abu Walid Sahraoui, a spokesman for the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa terrorist group, said, “We attacked France and Niger for its cooperation with France in the war against Sharia law.” Pray for an end to terrorism in Mali and in neighboring countries. Pray for the release of the hostages. Ask God to comfort the victims’ families as they mourn (The Bible, John 16:33). Azerbaijan, Southwest Asia Recently, the government created a new law criminalizing “online defamation and offensive language.” However, the definition of defamation and offensive language is vague. The potential punishments include hard labor, heavy fines, and imprisonment. Many believe the edict is the government’s attempt to silence Internet criticism ahead of the October presidential election. Pray for the presidential election in October. Pray for Christian Believers to use the upcoming election as an opportunity to share their faith. Pray for the Gospel to spread in Azerbaijan (The Bible, Colossians 4:5).
