Day Seven Niger, West Africa In Makalondi, approximately 14,000 people from 20 districts took an oath to stop Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), the removal of girls from school, and mandatory child marriages. The villagers tossed all instruments used for FGM into a large pit and sealed it. The government sponsored the ceremony in an effort to fight human rights abuses. Praise God for the villagers’ willingness to end FGM and protect the rights of young girls. Pray for the Gourmantche people of Niger, where the FGM rate is still around 65%. Pray for Christian Believers to share the Gospel in their communities and throughout Niger (The Bible, Philemon 1:6). Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia Unknown assailants attacked Ulugbek Azimov, a noted human rights attorney, and his family near his home. Although several police officers witnessed the incident, they did nothing to help the Azimovs or end the unprovoked attack. However, it is possible the attack was a hate crime because the Azimovs are ethnic Uzbeks, while the attackers are ethnic Kyrgyz. Pray for the government to prosecute the assailants. Pray for peace between ethnic Uzbeks and ethnic Kyrgyz. Pray for the Church in Kyrgyzstan to proclaim that true peace can be found in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ (The Bible, Matthew 11:28-30).
