Day Six in sunny Sarasota and we eventually got racing... Round 1 - TopicsExpress

Day Six in sunny Sarasota and we eventually got racing... Round 1 was an early race, our warm-up was before dawn! Despite the early start and the tough competition, Team Ireland posted a strong 2.47 min (for 500 metres). The Team repeated that same time in Round 2, which took place in the fierce midday sun. The Team put in a fantastic finish to cross the line 2nd. Overall the Team is placed 27th out of 101 teams. An added highlight of the day was meeting Don McKenzie, the physician who, in the mid-1990s, came up with the idea of dragon boat racing as a way for women (and men) who had a breast cancer diagnosis to get fit, prevent Lymphoedema, and to meet and socialise with other people who have experienced breast cancer. Thank you Dr McKenzie! As was said at yesterdays opening ceremony doctors saved my life; but paddling saved my spirit. This evening its the Parade of Nations and Team Ireland will once again be wearing green with pride! (expect to see photos tomorrow!)
