Day x – We got up and drove to Chula Vista and pick-up Brendan - TopicsExpress

Day x – We got up and drove to Chula Vista and pick-up Brendan at Jack’s house. They stayed up all night playing FIFA (a video game). This is not so odd, except for the fact that they play almost every day over the internet. Yeah, travel 2,000 miles and do the same thing that do all the time. Anyway, we drove downtown to The Harbor. We toured the aircraft carrier “Midway.” It was big – really really big. Though it was built in 1945, it was in service through the Persian Gulf War in 1991. On the deck, were numerous aircraft that called The Midway home over the decades (WWII props through Tomcats). Our neighbor, Mike Sonnefeld, served on the Midway. He’s well over six feet tall. I don’t know how he slept in those bunks. I think got a good shot of us in front of his aircraft type. We left the harbor, stopped at another In-And-Out Burger and met Brian at Mission Bay Park for an impromptu picnic. The weather was beautiful and we all had a great time. Then off to Sea World. No, we didn’t go to the famous San Diego Zoo. Kathleen and I have been and found it nice, but since we are regulars at the National Zoo (and the Baltimore zoo too), it wasn’t worth $75 for each of the eight of us. Shamu and the dolphin show were top quality, but my favorite part of the park was the seal and otter show where they parodied all the other shows in the park. It was hilarious and refreshing to see such serious people able to laugh at themselves. We saw most everything we wanted to and then headed back to Brian and Steve’s for dinner. Again, they couldn’t be more gracious and generous with their time and home.
