De- Register APC Now For Heating Polity, IPAC Tells INEC ABUJA- INTER-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) yesterday threatened the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, giving it an ultimatum of some days to de- register the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC for what it termed over heating the polity and constant attack on President Goodluck Jonathan. According to IPAC, it has concluded plans to drag INEC to court to seek for an order of mandamus compelling the commission to do that if it fails to withdraw the certificate of registration of APC. Addressing Journalists in Abuja yesterday, chairman of the Anambra State chapter of IPAC, Chief Ken Emeakayi, who noted that the APC has breached several sections of the constitution and the Electoral Act, said that “APC was also heating the polity and consistently attacking President Goodluck Jonathan and some members of his cabinet.” Emeakayi who doubles as Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP complained that part of the reason for the call on INEC to de- register the APC was that it was “consistently attacking Chief Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also breached several sections of IPAC Code of Conduct.” The IPAC Chairman who noted that it became imperative for them to bring this to public domain because all the political parties signed a Code of Conduct of parties with INEC that where IPAC sees any party going against the code, we have a duty to call for its sanction, adding, “What APC is doing is an infraction of the code and by attacking these people, especially Metuh, who is from Anambra state. “We demand an apology from the party (APC) or they de-link themselves from such sponsored and ochestrated attacks. We are not holding forth for any political, but if any other party should do what APC is doing now, we shall not hesitate to call such a party to order. “We want the APC to raise issues and attack issues not to attack individuals. APC should eschew bitterness and engage in acts that will bring about peaceful conduct of the 2015 general election. “We had called APC to order and we have written INEC through our letter of March 17 to de-register APC. They ought not to be functioning as a political party. We did this in consonnance with with the rules of IPAC”. Emeakayi who noted that the continued existence of APC also contravenes Section 222 of the constitution which provides for the election of officers of a political party on a periodic basis, said, “and we have brought this to the notice of INEC that more than eight months to their registration, no officer of APC is elected. “Also, Section 8 (7) of the Electoral Act, says INEC should de-register any political that fails to fullfil its duties as a political party. We also querry their launch of manifesto nine months after its registration, so, with what manifesto were they registered? “Also, nine months after registration, they were talking about membership registration, not membership revalidation. So, we ask again, who were the members of the party when INEC registered them? “They conducted an opinion poll of unknown candidate of their party. How can you conduct opinion of an unknown candidate? From their published result which says their unknown candidate defeated the President, how did they get the result of their poll with unknown candidate? “If INEC fails to do what we asked them in our petition, we shall be left with no option then to go to court and seek for mandamus to compel them de-register APC. “They are also sponsoring media propaganda against the Petroleum minister in several media houses.” Vanguard.
