Dean Calbreath: You are such an accomplished writer that while I had to go back to my business temporarily, I nonetheless cogitated on your irrelevancies and non-sequiturs. First, my copy of the Federalist Papers is the 1788 “McLean Edition,” with the same wording you cite. “The very next sentence” which you repeat means in addition to the unorganized militia which together with the local governments and national force every tyrannical throne in Europe would be overturned. Out of curiosity, how do you imagine the “Right of the People to alter or abolish” a government as stipulated in the Declaration of Independence can be accomplished without the Right to Bear Arms? Being as well-read as you are I’m sure you are familiar with the co-author of the Second Amendment, George Mason, who said, “To disarm the people [is] the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” The University named after him where acquaintances of mine teach, elaborates on the subject. Can we assume your objection to the validity of 5-4 Supreme Court decisions applies to dozens of other cases including the 5 to 4 Voting Rights Act? Furthermore, just by saying in upholding the Second Amendment as an individual right, the SCOTUS minority view “is backed by history and law” does not make it true, which it so clearly is not. Your mentioning The Shays and Whiskey Rebellions are irrelevant distractions from the core issue. An estimated 80 million gun owners disagree with you and while politics makes for strange bedfellows, you realize you are on the side of groups similar to the KKK in wanting to disarm citizens. For my own non-sequitur, I posit that neither Socrates, Jesus Christ or Joan of Arc were put to death by businessmen or corporations and R.J. Rummel estimated that in the last century over 100 million people were killed by their governments. How is that for an irrelevancy?
