Dear African, what is happening to the values of ubuntu? What is - TopicsExpress

Dear African, what is happening to the values of ubuntu? What is happening to the founding principles of our society? Shall we sit and watch our culture, our inheritance and the honour of our motherland go down the drain? It grieves one to think that we, as a continent, face so much suffering and poverty yet we have some of the finest and sharpest minds to ever walk the face of this earth. What is more mind boggling is the fact that, in spite of all the Intellectual Property that we host, our detractors, are none other than ourselves! Yes, we are our own weakness. Not lack of capital or a poor economy. We are our own destruction. It is our mentality which brings us down. First off, this notion that we need foreign investment so as to prosper is a fallacy brought upon us by none other than ourselves. We seem to perceive ourselves as an inferior people. We hold on tight to this supremecist view of our world rivals that they are the masters of our destiny. That without them, we would be soaked in eternal poverty and saturated with nought but misery and torture. My fellow African brother/sister, why do we allow ourselves to suffer from self hatred? Look all around you, we are surrounded with beauty. Beauty not in the form of man made features, but beauty in the form of fertile land, natural resources and a hard working, intelligent population. Behold, the age of slavery has been revived but not in its old stature, we are now falling victim to mental slavery and this is the worst form human rights violation. The United Nations cannot bail us out of this one. For I know most of us now are used to begging for help from the international community. We Africans, are violating our own human rights for we have enslaved ourselves and hence our children will eat nothing but the sores and wounds of slavery. We willingly give birth to a free generation and before our own is wiped out...we enslave it! We now play two roles; that of the slave master and that of the slave. I fear to think if we will ever be united enough to loose the chains we have burdened ourselves with, melt and then mould them into submarines which will ship us out of these deep waters which we have plunged ourselves into. These waters of bitterness at one another and war between sister and brother. These waters of self-imposed misery and sorrow. Are you afraid of greatness my brother/sister? Does the thought of greatness bring shivers to you spine, my sibling? Do you think we serve a lesser god? That our prayers go unanswered and our hard work unrewarded? That our long suffering is immortal and our hope for the future mortal? That the darkness of our skin reflects our mind and the kink in our hair shrinks our fortunes? If not by right then let it be by force, I decree that we are a great people! That our children will right our wrongs! That we will map out our own journey! That we are a prosperous people, united by love and bound by honour! That our past mistakes do not have what it takes for us to miss out on our future cake! My brother/sister let us not wait for someone to come and rescue us, for truly no one is ever going to come and rescue us. They are also waiting for us to rescue them! It is not our governments which can help us, not charismatic politicians who will free us, not even religion which will save us...but love for one another. It does not matter which race you are from, which geographical location you reside from or which religion you come from; our hearts beat together as one. God has already bestowed upon us the power to deliver ourselves and now it is up to us to harness that power and touch the lives of each other. Only two things will remain in this world, even after all is long lost and forgotten; hope and love. Hope for the future and love for one another. These two are the chief corner stones for prosperity. Let us unite and help each other in our communities, let us empower one another with the knowledge, skills and financing required for each and every one of us to be a productive member of the society. Let us have compassion and sympathy. Let us give shelter to the homeless, give a helping hand to the widow and love to the orphan. Instead of pulling each other down, let us uplift one another. Remember, a candle does not lose its ability to burn by simply lighting another. Imagine how bright our future will be if we are able to light all the blown out candles! Send that child to school, help elevate that man/woman to greater heights. We should join hands in building a community in which we all have equal opportunities and as a result, have absolutely no reason to fail. What if the cure for cancer is trapped inside a mind which cannot afford to get education? The question is not if we can afford to build such a community but if we can afford not to. Its not if we can afford to send every child to school, but if we can afford not to. Do not wait for change, be the change! We hold the key to the future and therefore lets exploit the present so as to chain the suffering of the past. The key is love and unity. Success is not measured by the amount of wealth you were able to acquire, but by how many people you were able to bless with what you acquired. Great African, what are you going to do today so that you help to build a better tomorrow? HAPPY AFRICA DAY!!! -Honourable Tatenda Constantine Sande
