Dear All, In 2015 I will be responsible of two extremely interesting courses at CDI (Centre for Development Innovation) part of Wageningen UR in the Netherlands. In both the courses we will have a mix of lectures, group work and field visit. I will be really grateful if you could spread as much as possible this information among your network. The first one will be in March (09-20): “Food security in an urbanizing society. From home gardens to agro-parks: working towards resilient agrifood systems serving densely populated areas”. It will consider how is becoming increasingly important, in a transforming society that is everyday more urbanized, to address food security and resilience in a landscape and holistic approach. What is changing? Who are the main actors? Can urban planning influence food-systems? Urban agriculture, agro-logistics, vertical farming, local, regional and global food provisioning, food culture, consumer education, policies and infrastructures, should all be considered together to design more reliable food systems for the future of our cities and mega-cities. This training programme consists of two modules of one week each, that can also be taken separately in 2 different years. CDI will partner with the Rural Sociology Group and with the Metropolitan Food Cluster team, both part of Wageningen UR and with RUAF to guarantee that multiple approaches and points of view will be delivered to the course participants. Here you can find more details about the course and how to apply for it: wageningenur.nl/en/Expertise-Services/Research-Institutes/centre-for-development-innovation/short-courses/show/cdicourse_food_security_urbanizing_society_2015.htm The second course, “Agriculture in Transition. Between tradition, innovation, and visioning: building new models for the future”, will be in May (18-29). In this course we will look at what are the main trends in agriculture and how they change and influence each other in the global food system. Each participant will utilize tools and methodologies from the farming system approach to analyse and design their own case study. Key experts form Wageningen UR will be invited to give lectures on special topics related to the course such as Climate Smart Agriculture and Conservation Agriculture, Ecological Intensification, new emerging markets, edible insects, holistic approach to water usage and irrigation and so on (last year we managed to have in one course experts like Ken Giller, Pablo Tittonell and Jan Douwe van der Ploeg). More information and how to apply for this course can be found here: wageningenur.nl/en/Expertise-Services/Research-Institutes/centre-for-development-innovation/short-courses/show/cdicourse_AIT_2015.htm Fellowships are available for several selected countries and the deadline to apply for it is the 21st of October 2014. If you have your own sponsor the deadline is 26 of January and 6 of April respectively.
